Gehring came to the Flyers from Joliet on August 4th, completing the trade that sent Vince Harrison to the JackHammers for Jason Richardson and a player to be named. After playing his college ball at Illinois-Chicago, Gehring spent one year in rookie ball before spending the last with Traverse City of the independent Frontier League.

Gehring went 2-2 in the month of June with 16 strikeouts and a 4.50 ERA in 28 innings pitched.
